Crown Portable Building Process

Transportable Buildings FAQ’s

How can I be sure that I get a quality portable building?

We are a NZ owned and operated company, manufacturing our portable buildings locally in Auckland. We proudly put our name on each of our portable buildings. All of our work comes with a workmanship warranty. Our portable buildings are constructed by experienced tradesmen and upon completion of each building, we issue the following documentation where appropriate as per specification:

  • Electrical Certificate of compliance
  • Electrical Warrant of Fitness
  • Gas Certificate
  • Plumbing PS3
  • Construction PS3
  • Engineering PS1
  • Engineering PS4

* Some of the above documentation is only required when submitting building consent and as such, cost apply with issuing some of the above paperwork (see council consent below) *

Can you custom build?

Yes. We can manufacture according to your specific requirements to ensure you get a portable building that is fit for purpose. We can customize your portable building size, layout and can fit custom size joinery. We can also fit some optional extras: AC units, data points, etc.

We have a range of standard portable building floorplans available which has been designed with optimum functionality and efficiency in mind. These are a cost-effective option that can address most requirements. We cover everything from transportable offices, transportable lunchrooms, ablution blocks, seasonal worker accommodation, self-contained portable buildings, and sleepouts.

Do you use imported product?
Most of our raw materials are manufactured right here in NZ (flooring, floor coverings, insulated panel walls / ceiling, flashings, joinery, etc). This ensures we support local industries and means that we can deliver a quality product standing the test of time in NZ conditions.
How is Crown Portable Building powered?

Our portable buildings come with a 32amp externally mounted Appliance inlet (Caravan plug). A power lead can be plugged into the appliance inlet to power the building.

Alternatively, a hard wire connection onsite into the switchboard by an LBP electrician.

Crown Portable Buildings are provided with an Electrical Certificate of Compliance.

How does the plumbing and gas fitting work?

All internal plumbing is completed and connected between the various items (Sinks, basins, shower and toilets). One water inlet connection on the outside of the building connects to the onsite water supply and will feed the whole portable building. One main waste pipe connects the building waste to the waste on-site (with the exclusion of the toilet waste connection). One toilet waste pipe connection per toilet will be ready for connection on the outside of the portable building.

Plumbing PS3 can be issued for all plumbing works.

Gas califont and associated pipework with regulator and chains are fitted as standard when gas fitting is part of the scope of works.

Gas certificate is issued accordingly.

How does payment work?
We require 25% deposit upon accepting and signing the quote. Manufacturing will only start once deposit has been paid. The remainder of the funds need to be paid before the portable building can be despatched. Paperwork are issued for all transactions.
What is your standard manufacturing time?
From the time the contract is signed and deposit is paid; it usually takes around 4 weeks to have a building ready for delivery. Lead times can vary depending on the amount of customised joinery required so it’s best to check when reviewing our quote.
Are there any guarantees in place?
Yes. 24 Month workmanship warranty
Will I need council consent?
Council consent depends on the size and application of the portable building. There are a number factors to consider but in most cases, if the building is larger than 10m², involves plumbing or is used as accommodation, then council consent will be required.
Do you help with council consent?

Yes. This is an optional service we provide. We can take care of the council consent relating to the portable building. There is an additional cost relating to council consent, which will be quoted separately to the cost of the portable building.

Please keep in mind that the council consent process adds approx. 1 month to the lead time of your portable building.

Our consent process does not involve resource consent from council.

How will my portable building be delivered to site?
Most of our portable buildings are delivered using HIAB trucks. In some cases, larger portable buildings are delivered using flat deck trucks with a HIAB or crane to offload. We’ve even lifted some portable buildings over existing buildings in order to get it where it should be.
